Chest of drawers

Chest of drawers in blended blues with transfer and stencil

Category:

The makeover of this chest drawers combines almost all possible media… It is like 6 in1!
I started by stripping the dark stain of the top and the front of the top drawer. I like the fluted rim and I thought the wood/shape will be much more visible when lighter.
I decided to paint the piece in blending technique using 3 hues of blue from Annie Sloan chalk paint collection: Aubusson Blue (the darkest), Greek Blue (medium) and Louis Blue (the lightest). It was a bit tricky for me getting the same blending on all 3 sides. I was trying to achieve the “climbing effect”.
Then I decided to add the furniture transfer to one of the drawers: I selected one of the retro motives from Belles & Whistles collection. I liked its colourful zigzags contrasting with the calmness of the blues.
I sealed the whole piece (except the top and the front of the top drawer) with Annie Sloan’s clear wax.
The final touch: irregularly applied stencil featuring squares (or rhombuses) using gilding wax (clear wax sealing before gilding wax stencils!)
I used the original hardware, but I refreshed it using spray paint in one of the metallic shades.
The top and the front of the top drawer were protected with satin varnish.
