Chest of drawers
Chest of drawers in Hazelwood with cane webbing and metallic stenciling
Category:
Originally, it was a vintage IKEA chest of drawers. What I mean by vintage: pure pine wood and old design.
Since this piece was made of pine wood and therefore prone to bleeding – I decided to go for a darker colour to save myself priming. My pick: Hazelwood from Fusion Mineral Paint.
I wanted to combine it with a light-coloured cane webbing on the smaller drawers. Unfortunately, the shape of the fronts of the drawers did not offer any natural framing so I had to create it. I used for it the wooden mouldings (trims). They are a great option to grate frames, or just as a decorative element. They need to be precut rather precisely and they attached with the glue. Since I do not like having extra gaps which often appear between trims and surface of the drawers – I use paintable silicon chalk to fill them up.
I painted the whole piece nut decided to keep the top bare to show the lovely grain. Later, I paint washed it in off-white and varnished it.
I was desperate to add a little “extra” … so I used the stencils on both sides – selecting metallic brass that corresponded nicely with Hazelwood. I replaced original wooden knobs with metal knobs and sprayed them with metallic bras spray.
