Chest of drawers
Chest of drawers with burlap decoration
Category:
It was a very… ugly and damaged chest of drawers. Its makeover was a complex one.
I started by scuffing all the surfaces. Since the veneer on the top was in a bad shape, I used liquid wood to recreate it. I applied 2 coats and scuffed it in between and before staining (see the list of used products underneath) in barnwood shade.
I decided to use the burlap to decorate the top drawers, but the drawers did not have the frame which is usually required in order to use cane webbing / burlap. I created a frame using flat wooden trim moldings: I precut the pieces and glued them to the drawers. I sanded the edges to get them perfectly aligned with the edges of the drawers, The small gaps between the trims and drawers, I filled it with paintable silicone caulk.
I used the putty to close the existing hardware holes and I drilled new ones.
I painted the whole piece in Carriage Green from Fusion Mineral Paint.
I precut the pieces of burlap (with an extra margin on all sides. I sprayed one of the sides with spray glue and let it dry a bit. I adjusted the size. I applied the spray glue within the frames (masking other parts) and attached the burlap. Put some extra weight to make sure it is well flattened.
I sprayed the entire piece with the varnish and once dry I attached the handles. I covered the insides of the drawers with inlay paper.
